90-Minute Restorative Sound Bath

Indulge in soothing restorative postures, as you bathe in poetry of non-doing by Louise Erdrich and Indian-influenced acoustic guitar

For this gentle practice, you will only need a quiet space, comfy clothes, and open ears. These soothing poses will be accessible to all bodies, and will make use of two yoga blocks (or semi-firm sofa cushions), two blankets, and as many extra pillows as you'd like.

You hear the voice of Katy Hawkins offering a reflection on "Advice to Myself," a poem about non-doing by Louise Erdrich. At the same time you'll see the poses demonstrated by dancer/yogi/pilates teacher Amy Lee, and a purely improvisational musical meditation by Raji Malik.

Katy and Raji have collaborated for years, and their creative styles blend well. In Katy's embodied approach to language, the goal is to generate a spontaneous, authentic experience of a poem not in the "thinky" brain, but with a more primal gut layer of our being. Raji's music is intended to reduce stress and create a sense of spaciousness in our interior world.

Expect to emerge feeling not just grounded and nurtured, but inspired.

Katy and Raji

Katy Hawkins and Raji Malik have collaborated for years in offering sound bath yoga experiences. Raji has performed and recorded Indian-influenced music in Philadelphia for 30 years. He finds deep inspiration from many brilliant "Modern Fingerstyle" guitarists who are all disciples of the late Michael Hedges, who reinvented the acoustic guitar with his harmonic percussive playing. His work can be found at Rajimalik.com.

Katy's teaching offers an experience of poetic language at the level of the body. Approaching the rhythms and mystery of a poem through sensation allows us to breathe in its truths in a way that changes us - a real experience of in-spiration.
